Question Is it OK to take Lamotrigine and thyroxine (Armour) at the same time? Both drugs cause insomnia for me. I have found that I can manage the Lamotrigine side effects by taking it at 5am and then returning to bed for an hour or so while the dizziness passes. Unfortunately I find that now need to take the thyroxine an hour before breakfast at about 6.30.
Answer Dear Amanda
They can be taken together and your timing is good. The adverse effects of lamotrigine usually wear off with time. Ask your prescriber whether you can reduce the dose of thyroxine - maybe you are on too high a dose. It is fairly easy to monitor and establish the correct dose by monitoring your pulse.
