Question I am 21 wks pregnant. I have taken 10mg of methadone a day for the past two weeks. I do not plan to take anymore. Is stopping going to affect my pregnancy?
Answer Dear Shannon,
Congratulations on your pregnancy!
If you have just been taking methadone short-term for pain then stopping it should be fine. If, however, you have been on it for a long duration, you should definitely consult the prescribing physician. It is not a good idea to suddenly stop methadone if you have been on it on a chronic basis.
Hope this helps and I wish you and your baby the best!
