Question Are there any risks in taking Microgynon 30 without the 7 day break i.e. continuously for 2 or 3 months?
Thank you.
Answer The risks of taking Microgynon 30 continuously for 2 or 3 months may include an increase in the risk of blood clot formation which could lead to stroke or heart attack, elevated blood pressure, and menstrual irregularities. While these same risks pertain to all birth control pills, taking them without the recommended break increases the risk, especially in women over 35 and smokers.
There are other birth control products containing different hormone combinations which are intended to be taken daily continuously for 3 months. These birth control pills also share some of the same risks but may be less since they contain lower total hormone concentrations.
I would recommend you talk to your doctor about changing your pills if you wish to switch therapies.
