Pharmacy - What Pharmacy Careers don't require standing for long periods of time

Expert: Mary E Scott, RPh, CGP - 8/29/2007

Question
I want to ask what pharmacy careers don't require standing long periods of time.  I am planning to become a pharmacist but have trouble standing for long periods of time.  Is there pharmacy careers that sit most of the time?

Answer
Hi,Vin!
Believe it or not, there ARE pharmacy jobs that don't require standing all day. You can rule out retail and hospital pharmacy, unless you are in upper management but you can work for pharmacy benefit managers,long-term care pharmacies, drug companies, universities,poison-control centers.
Consultant pharmacy may be a good fit for you. I work for a company that provides medications and consultant services for long-term care facilities, and I sit down most of the day. This is a paperwork and computer job,and doesn't require dispensing medication.
Of course, if you have a disability that prevents you from standing, I doubt that you could be barred from any pharmacy job unless they could prove you couldn't meet the job requirements. Hope this helps, Mary
