Pharmacy - Plavix ? effect on bladder and kidneys

Expert: Mary E Scott, RPh, CGP - 7/13/2007

Question
I am a nurse.  My fiance has been on Plavix for two years following stents.. and a DVT he now has microscopic blood in his urine.  Any connection?

Answer
Hi,Carole,
According to the literature, Plavix can cause hemorrhage at any site in the body. It probably is the cause of the microscopic blood in his urine, but it can show up in others without them having taken Plavix or aspirin products.
It depends on the amount of bleeding as to whether this is a problem. What does his doctor say about it? Does he have a low hemoglobin level or any physical symptoms of anemia?
Hope this helps, Mary
