Question My 11 yr. old daughter has been prescribed 5 mg of reglan prior to each meal to help her empty her stomach. Her tests show that her stomach is not processing her food fast enough and holding it too long. Is it safe for her to take this medication and for how long? I read that it shouldn't be taken for more that 12 weeks.

Answer Dear Cyndi
Sorrry this is late as I did not receive it until now. The email that should have reached me on Wednesday was never received.
Reglan can be used for the prolonged treatment of what your child is suffering from. If your daughter does not show any symtoms of adverse effects eg muscle spasms I see no reason why treatment cannot go on. As long as your daughter show improvement keep in with the drug. Her doctor, if concerned about long term treatment, will not prescribe it if the clinical symptoms show no improvement and the child is tolerating the drug.
Rest assured that your practitioner knows what she/he is doing.
