Pharmacy - Replacement for Aggrenox

Expert: Eric Brandt - 4/29/2007

Question
I have used Cumadin, Plavix, and other medications after my stroke, the last
medicine used on me was Aggrenox. I have experienced joint pain, overall
loss of energy. and other side effects. My friend also experienced the same
problems with Aggrenox she was taken off Aggronex and placed on baby
aspirin. Another friend was taken from Coumadine and placed on Ecotrin
81mg. What other medication is indicated for the same purpose. I have stop
taking Aggrenox and started taking Ecotrin 81mg. I am without medical
attention because Social Security has mess up my disability case so I am
without medicaid. I had two cva,s back in early 90's, I take nerontin,
Metoprolol and Avalid. I dropped the Aggronex and placed my self on Ecotrin.

Answer
Hi Carmen,
Anticoagulants are the drugs used to prevent a second stroke. You have been through all the ones that are usually used.
Keep your blood pressure under control, cholsterol under control, and regular heart beat. These measures in addition to low dose ASA will go a long way to prevent another stroke.
Thank you for using Allexperts
Sincerely,
Eric Brandt, B.Sc. Pharm
