Question
Hi I am taking Ortho Tricyclin LO, When I first started the pack I was told to take the SUNDAY pill if my period was to start on Sunday or to take it on the sunday following my period. My period started on a Sunday night, so when I went to take my pill I accidently took the SATURDAY pill instead of Sunday (I took the last active pill in the pack) I started having sex about 2 & a half weeks after I took the 1st pill, I didnt realize I had started with the wrong pill until just a few days ago and now im just about done with the pack, does this mean it wasnt working at all????

Answer
Dear Jennifer

I doubt if your mistake would make it not work as an effective contraceptive but cannot guarantee it 100%. My advice would be to continue until you finish the pack. If it is a 21 tablet pack go the 7 days without one or if a 28 day pack just continue as if you had not made the mistake. ie whichever size packet you are on forget about the mistake. I see no need to take any extra precautions at this stage against pregnancy. Remember though to start with tablet one this time and not tablet 21 or 28 whatever packet you have.

Regards

Dr Alan Galbraith
