Pharmacy - Synthroid

Expert: Eric Brandt - 7/11/2007

Question
I am taking a generic of synthroid, a daily fiber pill (I'm anemic), and vitamin B-6.  I have had some pain after a bowel movement and think it could possibly be an anal fissure... at least that's what my symptoms are.  Without having to go to the doctor, can I just take a stool softener and be ok with what I'm already taking.

Answer
Hi N,
Are you experiencing any rectal bleeding?
You may have hemorrhoids, inflammation, anal lissure, colitis etc. A stool softner will ease the symptoms when you pass stool, but you need to have it checked out if it is persistant. Otherwise you are only covering up symptoms and not getting to the "bottom" of things. Pardon the pun.
Thank you for using Allexperts
Sincerely,
Eric Brandt, B.Sc. Pharm
