Question I have been taking Effexor( 75 mg) for nearly a year now. Recently, I also began taking Ultram once a day for about the last two weeks for a back injury. I have not had a period in nearly 8 weeks and have taken several(7) pregnancy tests which all come back negative. I am working on my doctorate in clinical psychology, which can be extremely stressful, so I thought perhaps that could be the issue. However,my cycle is like clock work...always there each month. Could the Ultram be to blame? What do you think is the problem? Thank you for any advice you can lend.
Answer Hi Lauren,
Thanks for your question.
SO it appears that you are not pregnant, seven tests is a lot! Your hormones are likely be out of wack, due to some recent events.
As you noted, the Utram was introduced, but you said that was two weeks ago, due to back pain, and you also say you haven't had a period in 8 weeks, that would lead me to believe that the problem came before the Ultram was thrown into the mix.
I would stop the Utram, just in case. If it were causing hormonal changes, things should go back to normal.
Questions for you: Have you lost or gained weight recently? Do you exercise a lot? (not enough estrogen to bring on a period) What do you use for birth control? Do you tend to store weight in you abdomen and upper body?-- this may be an indicator of PCOS,,,(estrogen dominance)
of course stress from school would most likely worsen the situation, but I wouldn't suspect it to be the primary cause unless you are forgetting to eat.
In any case you gynecologist would be best to do an exam.
And if you decide to go on birth control to bring on a period, I recommend the nuva ring! Its wonderful.
And it beats any pill. (my opinion)
