Question I am 45 years male and on Atenolol 100 Amlodipine 10 Losartan 100. HCT 25 mg I have hypertension palpitation and irregular beats, other day my doctor asked me to discontinue amlodipine as according to him amlodipine also cause palpitation. I have been taking amlodipine since 1999 without any problem. Is the apprehension expressed is theoretical or should i delete amlodipine as advised My apprehension is that my well settled bo likely to be diturbed. Kindly educate me.
Answer Hi DNP,
Palpitation is seen with calcium channel blockers like nifedpine and amlodipine, but not with verapamil. This is not a theoretical consideration but an experimental one. Generally atenolol should be able to control amlodipine induced palpitations but in your case it is not doing so. Eliminating amlodipine may help.
