Pharmacy - combined meds for depression

Expert: Eric Brandt - 5/10/2007

Question
I take 20mg of escitalopram oxalate, 150 mg of venlafaxine hcl XR, and 40 mg adderall XR daily for depression and ADHD.  I am not depressed but I am nervous and irritable.  Is this signs of serotonin syndrome?  I have tried l-trptophan and kava kava and b vitamins for the nerves but it hasn't helped.  Would tapering off the meds help?

Answer
Hi Renee,
This combination puts you at risk for developing serotonin syndrome. Were these all prescribed by the same doctor?
If not, I suggest you see ONE doctor and take all your medications (prescription and non-prescription) so the doctor can sort out what you shoul be taking and is safe for you.
Thank you for using Allexperts
Sincerely,
Eric Brandt, B.Sc. Pharm
