Question
please can you tell me if there are any differences between microgynon 21 and microgynon 30, if so what are they?

Answer
Chris

Do you mean Microgyon 20? I can't find any record of a Microgynon 21, though most oral contraceptives contain 21 tablets in the pack.

The difference between Microgynon 20 and 30 is in the dose of ethinylestradiol, a synthetic estrogen which is one of the components of each tablet.

The majority of women will normally find Microgynon 30 to be an ideal preparation, however some find it gives too many side effects and are prescribed the reduced dose as an alternative. Used correctly the lower strength product can be equally effective.

I hope this helps.

Expertise

I am happy to answer general questions on medicines and hospital care. If possible, please use approved / chemical names rather than brands which are not internationally recognised. Like all health professionals I am bound by a duty of care which prevents me giving detailed information about medication or treatment of people other than the questioner. I will endeavour to help wherever possible or point towards more appropriate advice. If however your question crosses too far into patient confidentiality, I hope you will understand why I cannot answer your question. Consider.. would you want me to discuss your care with a friend or relative without your knowledge?
