Question
I am currently taking wellbutrin XL 150mg and celexa 20mg for my depression. I am trying to get off of the the celexa and switch to zoloft. I was recently diagnosed with esophagitis reflux.  I saw that there was a moderate drug interaction between prilosec otc and some antidepressants and was wondering if it is still safe take take prilosec otc with any of those antidepressants above?

Answer
Hi Curt,

Your doctor, or doctors that are prescribing these medications  should be informed of all the medication you are taking.

There should be no problem with taking the prilosec.

Prilosec may affect drugs that are metabolized via the cytochrome P450 enzyme prolonging the elimination of valium, warafin etc.

Also it inhibits somach acid, so potentially it may effect all drugs in some way. But do not worry, there should be a problem.

You have to try the prilosec and see if it works for you, please talk to your doctors/ENT etc. to let them know how you are feeling.

I would say Zoloft and Wellbutrin as a combo makes more sense also.

Also limit your intake of acidic foods and alcohol, which im sure you already have, and try to prop yourself up with some pillows at night while you sleep.

Hope you feel better.
Layla
