That's exactly right.  You would not be the first person to split the alendronate 70mg to get 35mg to take once a week. This is the prophylaxis dose for women at risk of developing osteoporosis ( Some sources also recommend against splitting these tablets because they may be irregularly shaped or have thick coating.  The main risk is if the patient doesn't wash it down with a glass of water.
