I switched to nuvaring after 4 years on bc pills - i was told my risk was low - within three months developed a DVT and multiple PEs that went misdiagnosed for months. I am 21 years old, healthy (until now), never a smoker, and no genetic or medical reasoning for a clot besides the nuvaring.
I think women should know (widely be told) that it has a much higher risk than normal bc pills and can ruin your life.

I must object to your answer. It has been stated that nuvaring does affect your blood's clotting system more than regular birth control pills. I am 24 years old and in great health. I had been on nuvaring 2 months and experienced a massive clot in my right lung. I have been tested for all types of blood clotting disorders and I do not have any. I have to be on Coumadin (blood thinner) for one year. I do feel that women should be further warned about these risks. Doctors need to be more cautious when giving these drugs. I do not think the physicians realize how serious this is getting. It almost ruined my life. Thats a risk I would not have taken.
