I would like to think that professionals doing the drug testing do know that diabetics on insulin frequently test positive on alcohol testing...but our recent experience is to the contrary.  The drug court program in Joshua Tree Ca, including the Judge at Joshua Tree court handling the program are NOT aware of this fact...the drug program has personeel with 15+ years of experience and they do not know this information.  It is very stressful for the client, who is in a a drug and alcohol program that requires testing many times a week. Recent issue is the client tested in a week while having an average blood sugar level of 470 and daily taking insulin injections. The client took a urine test, and it was mailed to a lab and consequently tested positive for alcohol.  The lack of knowledge by the drug court program staff, the testing method  have added to the client's stress and add to her frequent high blood sugar levels.  We would appreciate a referral to an appropriate test for alcohol that are knowledgeable about the relationship of insulin and alcohol testing.
