Pharmacy - gastroparesis

Expert: Dr. Ravindra Bhaskar Ghooi - 12/8/2006

Question
my husband has had type 1 diabetes mellitus for about 12 years.  He has recently be diagnosed with gastroparesis.  He is using Reglan t.i.d. with meals at this time.  I have read that there has been testing of the use of viagra in the treatment of this condition.  Also, is there any other medication besides reglan that can be used? I think Canada had something but I can not remember the name of the medication.

Answer
Hi Linda,
There are some alternatives for metoclopramide such as Domperidone. I am aware that some investigations were on for a similar effect of Viagra, but i am not aware of their outcome. My suggestion is that if he is doing well on metoclopramide then do not change. If necessary Domperidone may help.
Regards
Ravi Ghooi
