Question Hi my name is Brittney. I am entering my senior year in high school this year. After high school, I plan on attending college for pharmacy. This summer I am taking a class called Career Exploration at Suny Brockport and one of our assignments is to contact people who work or know about the career field that we are interested in. I have a couple questions that you may be able to answer for me. I am wondering what classes are needed to be taken in college? What major information that I may need to know? About how much are the college expenses? Are there any other recommendations that you may have for me. I hope to hear from you soon so that I can continue exploring the pharmacy field. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Brittney
Answer Hi Brittney,
The courses you take in collee towards your degree in pharmacy include: pharmaceutics, mathematics, algebra, microbiology, orgabic chemistry, physical chemistry, physics, physiology, anatomy, biochemistry, dermatology. You could check with your local college about their particular program. Cost of the program varies from college to college and province to province or state to state. I recommend you shadow a pharmacist to learn what they do. It is useful to shadow retail pharmacists as well as hospital pharmacists as the practice is different in these two settings.
Thank you for using Allexperts
Sincerely,
Eric Brandt, B.Sc. Pharm
