Pharmacy - magnesium question

Expert: Dr. Ravindra Bhaskar Ghooi - 9/26/2007

Question
Hi...I'm currently taking 350 mg of Mag. Oxide to help with my PVC's (heart issue).  What is the best form of mag to take?  Oxide, Citrate, Stearate, etc.???  I tried the citrate and it upset my stomach, but the oxide seems to be okay.  I just want to make sure it's absorbing properly.  THanks!

Answer
Hi Shea,
The best form of magnesium is citrate and that gets absorbed fast. If yo take the oxide it wll mostl be converted to chloride and absorbed. Absorbtion of chloride is also good. In an case the amount absorbed will be more than adequate for your body's needs.
