Question my mother is 85 and takes methadone (liquid) as a pain-killer; also takes nitroglycerin when the chest pain occurs; should she take those medicines within some minimum interval between each other; what are side effects by taking them in short interval; is the severe headache connected, in some way, with taking those medicines? thanks
Answer Hi Ljubica,
Normally I would not allow a cardiac patient to use methadone, but at the age of 85, the rules of medicine do change. I would yet leave an interval of about 4 hours between the two. Yes, headache is due to nitroglycerine, and is common for many people. Frankly at the age of 85 I woudl advice you not to change her treatment or ask any changes specially if she is comfortable. At this age, her comfort is more important than anything else.
