Question
i have read that you should not consume alcohol while taking metronidazole.  i forgot about this and drank alcohol a couple of times; i take metronidazole long term.  i experienced no noticeable side effects when i drank the alcohol.  is it okay to consume alcohol while taking metronidazole if i do not experience side effects?

Answer
Hi Mif,
The recommendation not to use alcohol during metronidazole use is based on observations in some patients. When you take alcohol you risk the interaction. It is not possible to say when you are at a greater risk. It s lke driving after drinking. Many times you escape without getting hurt or caught, but it is not wise to do so.
