Question
Dear Sir
For a few years i have been perscribed , inderol, paxil, vallium, ranitodine. For panic, depression, my family is also known for our stomack producing to much acid.
Having said all of this, i now find out my colestrol is too high 2x higher and was perscibed lipitor. I have 2 doctors GP and Shrink and they talk to each other.
About the same time i started  taking lipitor i got the flu or somrthing close. My biggist problem is the mucas now going into my lungs when i lie down(i have had a nasal drip for a long time also). Is there any over the counter medicine i can take for this mucus problem, i feel like i am drowning when i sleep.
This is why   i am up at 3 am  and it is now Sunday, so not much help from the doctors here in Canada. Please help. I know i am on a lot of heavy duty medicine.

Thanks in advance
John

Answer
You can take guiafenesin to thin and loosen the mucus.  This would not interact with your other medications.  In the US guiafenesin is marketed over the counter as Robitussin and Mucinex.  Drinking more water wil also thin and loosen mucus.  I would also talk to your doctor about the continued problems you have had with mucus.

Thanks

Barb Judge
