Question hi, i am like 100 pounds over weight i am 42, i need to lose some weight, as i can tell it is really affecting me.
with all the otc weight loss pills on the market i have no idea what to take. can you help me?
Answer I get this sort of question more than any other. Everyone, myself included, is looking for that magic pill that will help them lose weight. The simple truth is that there is none. And perhaps never will be.
I simply cannot condone the use of any pharmaeutical agents for this. Because they will not work. The only way to lose weight is to strive towards tilting the caloric balance sheet in favor of caloric expenditures. That is to say that one must be diligent and disciplined to consume less calories daily than one burns. And over time you will lose weight.
The best way to do this is by portion control. Continue to eat a balanced diet of foods and certainly you should eat what you like. But take a good hard look at your habits and your selection. And your portions. Obviously there are some things that you just cannot eat. That would be those empty calories found in sugary drinks and snacks. Eliminate these things as best you can. Stop the ritualistic foods. Like a daily portion of ice cream for instance. That was what used to be my nemesis. And then stop eating at the very first sign of fullness. If you slow your eating pace down you will be more aware of that first full feeling. Then stop. Push it away. Save the remainder for another meal if you like but don't finish it now. Get used to leaving food uneaten on your plate. And after the first tough few weeks you will find that your appetite has actually diminished. Not far after that you will see the pounds leave. But go slowly. Your goal should be about one pound off per week. So losing 100 extra pounds will take you about two years. And that is after waiting for as much as six months before the weight loss actually begins. Most people are just not patient enough. Consider that you did not gain 100 pounds all at one time. It happened over years I presume. So should the losses.
One thing you can try is a good carbohydrate blocker. These are very safe products derived from red beans that claim to block the utilization of carbs. If you diligently take them before each meal and follow the guideline above you will eventually lose weight.
Don't forget to drink plenty of water too. Especially every time you "feel" hungry. Most hunger pains are really thirst pangs. Drink to your full of water every time you feel hungry instead of snacking. And incorporate water at meal times too. Say no to goodies. Cookies, doughnuts, cakes, pastries, and all that junk that people eat together at the office. Just walk away. And you should incorporate some exercise. Even a nice brisk walk three times a week is good. The best calorie burning exercise of all is digging. Like in the garden. Go outside and do some of this several times a week and you will burn that weight off.
