Question I've had a persistent dry/tickling cough since July 2004 when I caught a bad cold/cough. The illness and mucous-producing cough went away but the dry cough didn't. I am a singer and it ruins my voice as well as my performance. In December 2004 I caught another bad cold/cough so I went to see a doctor to see if he could give me something that would end the coughing once the cold went away. He prescribed Amoxicillin, Promethazine VC/COD syrup and Albuterol inhalant. I really didn't have much hope for the cough syrup or antibiotics, but I'd heard of the use of steroid inhalants to end coughs and hoped that the Albuterol would work. It didn't. My friend said his wife had a 4 month cough that was put to rest by an eye, ear and throat specialist who gave her something other than the antibiotics she'd been taking. He said it stopped the cough completely. Is there anything you know of that would stop this nagging cough? It feels like there is a piece (or several pieces)of loose tissue in my lung or windpipe that tickles with almost every breath- especially when I'm singing or exercising. The doctor said it could be dried mucous, but I doubt if dried mucous would hang in there that long. I only have hoarseness after long periods of coughing. Thank you.
Answer Hi Brian,
I am not in a position to make a diagnosis or prescribe.
Considering what uou have told me it is probably best for you to see your doctor again or get a referral to a specialist. You have not yey tries steroid inhalers. It might be something to try. Albuterol is a bronchodilator, not a steroid inhaler.
Thank you for using Allexperts
