AboutNigel Simmons Expertise I am happy to answer general questions on medicines and hospital care. If possible, please use approved / chemical names rather than brands which are not internationally recognised.
Like all health professionals I am bound by a duty of care which prevents me giving detailed information about medication or treatment of people other than the questioner.
I will endeavour to help wherever possible or point towards more appropriate advice. If however your question crosses too far into patient confidentiality, I hope you will understand why I cannot answer your question.
Consider.. would you want me to discuss your care with a friend or relative without your knowledge?

Question Is it okay to take phentermine and buspirone at the same time?
Answer Kandice
There is no published evidence of interaction between phentermine and buspirone, but I suspect this is less an indication of safety and more an indication that they have rarely been used together.
As both drugs affect brain chemistry, I would certainly urge caution if they are to be taken concurrently. If the prescribing doctor is aware that you would be taking both products, then they should be alert for problems and should make appropriate assessements. I would not recommend adding one without direct medical supervision (e.g. obtaining one via mail order).
Weight gain is both a symptom of depressive illness and sometimes a side effect of treatment. Adding in appetite suppressants does not really prevent the cause and as I have indicated, could introduce unknown and potentially serious risks.
If you are concerned at weight gain, or want to find ways of achieving effective reduction, then there are a few simple steps:
- Avoid snacking between meals. If you do feel hungry, try fresh fruit
- Try to keep to one main meal each day, ideally midday but no later than 7pm. Other meals should be light - fruit, cereal / crackers etc.
- Try to progressively become more active. A short walk around the block each day, aiming to get faster over a couple of weeks. Then increase the distance and so on.
- Set yourself a reasonable target weight. A few pounds initially. When reaching that, allow a (non-food) reward - new clothes or similar. Set a new target and continue.
The best weight loss is achieved through slow, controlled actions. Drugs, diet aids or excessive energy burns are never effective over the long term.
