Question i just wanted to know what would happen if ramipril is overdosed, everybody keeps saying just to go straight to hospital which is obvious but could it kill you?
Answer Hi Kelly,
Thanks for your question. RAMIPRIL (AltaceŽ) is an antihypertensive (blood pressure lowering agent) known as an ACE inhibitor. Ramipril controls high blood pressure (hypertension) by relaxing blood vessels. High blood pressure levels can damage your kidneys, and may lead to a stroke or heart failure.
Single oral doses in rats and mice of 10-11 g/kg resulted in significant lethality. In dogs, oral doses as high as 1 g/kg induced only mild gastrointestinal distress. Limited data on human overdosage are available. The most likely clinical manifestations would be symptoms attributable to hypotension (drop in blood pressure).
Please feel free to follow up with any further questions.
