Subject: Is it safe to break up tablets

Question
Hi i have to take to 500mg Azithromycin Antibiotic tablets which are very big and make me feel sick just thinking about swallowing them. Is it safe to break them in to smaller bits or powder so it easier to take? I have just finished taking a course of 500mg of Cefalexin over 1 week. How long should i wait before taking the Azithromycin? Many Thanks Ricky

Answer
Hi,Ricky,
These can be crushed, but it will be very bitter. It is available in a liquid suspension which would be much easier to take.
If large tablets are hard for you to swallow, you should mention this to your doctor so that, in the future, he/she can prescribe a liquid. Hope this helps, Mary
