interests include childrens` health and safe medication use for seniors. As the mother of two small children, I am quite knowledgable on many parenting issues from how to handle

in that population, and disease management issues.

Subject: taking medicine together
Question I use Albuterol & Ipratropium in my nebulizer. And had been using Benadryl until I was told said I shouldn't take them together, that benadryl might cause an asthma attack. But if I don't take benadryl I can't keep my asthma under control. I take Claritin but it doesn't help that much, and it sure isn't as good as benadryl. The Claritin D works ok but it is the same as Benadryl isn't it. The medicine I take everyday are . Albuterol & Ipratropium in nebulizer, Azmacort, and Maxair if needed, and also generic tagamet.
Answer Hi Marji,
You heard right--you should not use Benadryl during an acute asthma attack. It sounds like you need to be on a better maintenance regimen. A lot of patients that I see, here in the allergy capital of the world, are on Flovent for maintenance and albuterol only as needed.
I would definitely contact you Dr. and let him or her know of your issues. They should be able to help get your asthma under control.
I wish you the best!
Regards,
Dr. Kompare, Pharm.D
