Question Hi doctor. My road to surgery has not been smooth. My knee surgery had to be put off because I was running an unexplained fever which I am trying to clear up with antibiotics (Z pack--my doctor thinks I have a sinus infection.)
My problem is that I was taking tramadol (only 50 mg a day for about a month for knee pain) but discontinued it a few days ago because of a weak or fainting spell. Now I am unable to sleep I didn't think I was taking enough to have withdrawal symptoms, but for two nights I have been hyper awake and nervous even though I am extremely tired. Do you know how long the effects of this chemical will continue to effect me this way?
Answer Hi Mary,
I am sorry to learn of your problem. The effect of the drug could last upto 5 days at the most. My guess is that after two days of wakefulness you will fall asleep by the third day. But a small tranquillizer like alprazolam will not hurt you. Why not try that? You are probably tense and need a tranquilliser.
