Question i work in a womens substance abuse facility and i recently tested a client that presently takes klonopin daily as prescribed. she has been taking this drug for 7 years. however, on the 2 drug screens given the test showed the client negative for any benzodiazepines. when poison control was contacted for more infomation we were informed that this is normal if the drug is taken as prescribed but this makes no sense to us. please help.
Answer Hi Katie,
This makes no sense to me either. If a person takes a benzodiazepine regularly, regardless of the duration, the drug should show up on a drug screen. The only time the drug would not show is if the person had a washout peiod from when they took the last dose to when the blood for the test was drawn.
Thank you for using Allexperts
Sincerely,
Eric Brandt, B.Sc. Pharm
