About Bill and Lorna Collings
Expertise
Feel FREE to ask us about traveling, living, relocating, retiring and investing in the Philippines. Guests from 83 countries make our place in Manila an incredible meeting place for world travelers who exchange travel stories and information. We understand both the joys and the hardships of living and traveling in the Philippines.

Experience
I arrived in the Philippines in January 1980 to travel for 2 months; I stayed 4 months before reluctantly leaving. I met my Filipina wife, Lorna. an incredible stellar, "one in a million" individual in 1983 in Seoul and we moved to the Philippines in 1986 and opened our 3BR house to world travelers on a budget. After welcoming thousands of guests from 83 nations our place has grown to 30 bedrooms but will never lose its "Home away from Home" atmosphere. Almost everyday at The Townhouse Hotel there's a party-like social scene with vibrant, almost magical energetic conversations between our guests who have the pleasure to meet each other and share their life's many experiences. Sometimes. three groups with conversations in different langauges are going on at the same time.
So we've been exposed to every kind of person from all over the world and shared their experiences.

Question
Hello Mr. Bill,

I was searching information about TRV and I saw your responses to different questions. I hope you would be able to answer my question too.

I recently got married with my filipina Online GF and decided to stay here in the Philippines for good. So i applied for the TRV on the 1st week of April 2008 and the immigration issued the letter of approval on 24th of april. Now i have applied for ACR I card and its been almost a month but its not yet printed out? anyway MY question for you is:
1. what this ACR I card will cover?
2. Do i still need to go to other Govt authorities for work permit or somethg?
3. Can i apply for Driving license?
4. Do i need to pay extra charges for NBI clearance or this types of Clearances?
5. does the TRV allows me to go out of the country? Do i need visa when i will come back to PHL again?
6. do you have any idea when i have to apply for TRV renewal?
7. What about SSS or TIN? do i have to apply for it?

for your kind information, i would like to add, My TRV was issued under section 13A, PIA law instruction NO 33. for One year Probationary period.

Thank you in advance MR. Bill and May god bless you.

1 )ACR card doesn't mean much and translates to Alien Certificates of Registration serving as an identification device ONLY.
2 ) Yes of course but in most cases why bother? Work Permits are VERY DIFFICULT to get just like in the States as the employer needs to apply and advertiser for FIlipino job candidates FIRST befor ehiring a foreigner.
3 ) A tourist like myself ( after 28 years of living and traveling here ) can get a Driver's License all you need is an address or simple resident I.D. which costs about P20 to P40 at the local barangay Hall.
4 ) I never have done anything like this but if you are determined to follow ALL the reglations to the LETTER than most likely can get yourself an NBI Clearance
5 & 6) Copied below from:http://immigration.gov.ph//index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=17&Itemid=37
Temporary Resident Visa       PDF        Print
I am married to a Filipina. Under your regulation I am a restricted national, will I be eligible for a permanent residence visa?

No, However, you may apply for Temporary Resident Visa (TRV). This is issued to an applicant who, despite the absence of immigration reciprocity between his country and the Philippines, contracts a valid marriage with a Philippine citizen.
Who are qualified for TRV?

An alien spouse and unmarried children under 21 years old of any Philippine citizen may apply for TRV.
What is the validity of my TRV Visa?

TRV is valid for a probationary period of one (1) year. Thereafter, it may be extended every two (2) years.
What are the benefits of a TRV holder?

Once you have this visa you may now:

   * be employed in the Philippines
   * lease real property
   * own personal property

qualify for Philippine citizenship, after residence of five years.

7 ) Easier to have your Filipina wife or girlfriend do such things ( I NEVER HAVE and have been in business since 1986 )but here's  a few links;
