About Bill and Lorna Collings
Expertise
Feel FREE to ask us about traveling, living, relocating, retiring and investing in the Philippines. Guests from 83 countries make our place in Manila an incredible meeting place for world travelers who exchange travel stories and information. We understand both the joys and the hardships of living and traveling in the Philippines.

Experience
I arrived in the Philippines in January 1980 to travel for 2 months; I stayed 4 months before reluctantly leaving. I met my Filipina wife, Lorna. an incredible stellar, "one in a million" individual in 1983 in Seoul and we moved to the Philippines in 1986 and opened our 3BR house to world travelers on a budget. After welcoming thousands of guests from 83 nations our place has grown to 30 bedrooms but will never lose its "Home away from Home" atmosphere. Almost everyday at The Townhouse Hotel there's a party-like social scene with vibrant, almost magical energetic conversations between our guests who have the pleasure to meet each other and share their life's many experiences. Sometimes. three groups with conversations in different langauges are going on at the same time.
So we've been exposed to every kind of person from all over the world and shared their experiences.

                           JANICE

Answer
Hi Janice, First let me say that I think you are making a wise decision as our daughter is enrolled in her last year at University of Hawaii at Manoa and her tuition has risen from U$10,000 4 years ago to U%17,400 this year. Educational costs in the States have risen almost as much as oil price and whoever is responsible for such rising costs is no better, morally than the CEOs of multi-national corporations.

Okay here's a tuition range for local Filipina nursing students as we have two personal friends and a relative who are paying for nursing school; from P27000 to P45,000 / semester for tuiton alone meaning with books and transportation and lunch from P80,000 to P150,000 ( U$1800 to U$3500 )/ year and for foreign students about double that for tuition alone meaning P100,000 to P200,000 / year tuition or about U$3000 to U$5000 / year + housing etc about P4000 to P8000 ( U$90 to U$180 )/ month. The price ranges vary from provincial universities with good reputations to metropolitan universities with great reputations. There are 10,000 Korean foreign students in Metro-Manila alone and many middle east and African foreign students as well.

Another reason you are making a wise decision to further your educational / income opportunities is that finally the re-adjustment and equalization of what were considered female careers versus male careers in the States is becoming a REALITY. One of my best friends has practiced medicine for 30+ years and we have other friends whose Filpina wives are nurses in various cities in the States so know that a nurses employed in the States can earn U$60,000 to U$90,000 / year depending on where they work and how much overtime or what shift they work.

If you are Filipino American but have only an American passport it's good idea to apply for DUAL NATIONALITY and get a Philippines Passport issued to SAVE you on tuition costs. Here's LINK to a list of colleges and universities all over the Philippines.

You will need to contact each school individually to find out if your present educational degrees and course work will transfer over and can be applied to an Registered Nurse Degree.

In Manila, LYCEUM, Anteneo, UP DILIMAN, UST, De LaSalle University, Saint Luke's the nearby San Juan De Dios ALL have good Nursing school programs and reputations. Baguio, Dumaguete Negros and Iloilo all have great schools which ytou may also want to consider as they will be cheaper to live in than in Metro-Manila. GOOD LUCK Janice, hope this INFO will help you; MABUHAY PHILIPPINES!

We have a guest house style Hotel / hostel enar the Manila airports should you need a place to stay when you first arrive and a beachfront Boracay resort should you need some R & R during school breaks.
