Books, books and more book! Personal experiences can sometimes disprove philosophical discussions and writings. My PHILOSOPHY: If you do wrong to people, you don't have the right to exist. Helping people is WHY we're here. At least it's my purpose of life. Why do people keep seeking humanism, nihilism and existentialism? Few seem to realize satisfaction. All humans are subject to death and Earth has not been cultivated into an earth-wide paradise. Perhaps it can be if we serve one another. I can't imagine a more satisfying life than using my free will to serve thy neighbor. Let's get started. It's 2009! In fact, it's 3/24/09!

Question
Good afternoon, I would like to know which was Plato definition for "good" and how humans could achieve to know this idea.

Thanks.

Answer

Great, great questions, Alejandra. I'm glad you're interested in Philosophy:

Plato describes "The Form of the Good" in his book, "The Republic," using Socrates as his mouth piece. The Form of the Good is the ideal or perfect nature of goodness, and so an absolute measure of justice. Plato also explains his theory of justice in "The Republic," in relation to his conception of the ideal state, both of which necessitate rule of the rational mind. In other words, Philosophers and "humans" who can grasp the Form of the Good.

He poetically compares the Form of the Good to the sun. Just as the sun emanates light, so the form of the good emanates TRUTH. And just as we are able to see the world with our eyes using the light of the sun, so we can make sense of the world with our rational minds only through the assistance of TRUTH, derived from the Form of the Good.

"how humans could achieve to know this idea."

ANSWER: Social constructivism holds that TRUTH is constructed by social processes, is historically and culturally specific, and that it is in part shaped through the power struggles within a community.

Tell the TRUTH, Alejandra, and tell other people how you feel after you tell the TRUTH. Nothing to learn. Consistency in thought is probably the most important aspect of telling the TRUTH. It also takes DEDICATION!

That's it from here, my friend. Take care and stay safe.
