Philosophy/Mother teresa rule

Question
Hi Hank. First off, I like your philosophy. It's true. We don't need anymore hurt. This is too common. But my question is this. Mother teresa had a rule for developing humility. It's "Accept small irritations with good humor." What do you think she means?

Answer

AN AUTO NEST!

I'm glad you're into Philosophy, Gabriela. Kinda makes you think, huh? Here's your answer on this beautiful sunny day in Western Illinois:

Laugh at "small irritations" and then forget about them. No harm. No foul! Take 'em with a grain of salt! (An old saying)

     Something extra for you, Gabriela:

Mother Teresa gave these rules to her Sisters to help them develop the virtue of humility:

1. Speak as little as possible about yourself.

2. Keep busy with your own affairs and not those of others.

3. Avoid curiosity.

4. Do not interfere in the affairs of others.

5. Accept small irritations with good humor.

6. Do not dwell on the faults of others.

7. Accept censures even if unmerited.

8. Give in to the will of others.

9. Accept insults and injuries.

10. Accept contempt, being forgotten and disregarded.

11. Accept injuries and insults.

12. Be courteous and delicate even when provoked by someone.

13. Do not seek to be admired and loved.

14. Do not protect yourself behind your own dignity.

15. Give in, in discussions, even when you are right.

16. Always choose the more difficult task.

   Something more mind-boggling:

Add the Ten Commandments and the Golden Rule to the above and assure yourself a place in Heaven at a young age. Adversely, forget about it if you could care less about religion. Freedom of choice, huh?

Thanks for the question. Send more! Philosophy is my favorite subject. History runs a close second!

Expertise

Books, books and more book! Personal experiences can sometimes disprove philosophical discussions and writings. My PHILOSOPHY: Helping people is WHY we're here. At least it's my purpose in life. Why do people keep seeking humanism, nihilism and existentialism? Few seem to realize satisfaction. All humans are subject to death and Earth has not been cultivated into an earth-wide paradise. Perhaps it can be if we serve one another. I can't imagine a more satisfying life than using my free will to serve thy neighbor. Let's get started. It's almost 2011! I seem to have this "savior complex" due to which I seem to be automatically attracted to people who need my help on a daily basis. Since we are the only critters on the planet, how about joining me? Pleasure and satisfaction are your rewards. Remember to spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever. Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side.
