I am a student of philosophy at Victoria University, Wellington New Zealand, and I am having much trouble finding a clear answer as to where is the best place to study Husserl at post-graduate level. I plan to do honours at Auckland University and possibly Masters as well, but if i was to pursue a PhD in philosophy i would love to do it on Husserl. So, who/where is the best place to study?
Answer My first inclination would be to get a copy of the next philosophy conference proceedings. Here in the U.S., it is the American Philosophical Association and they hold an annual meeting where current papers are presented.
I'd keep an eye out for those who chair the "Husserl Society" at the meeting. The Chairperson tends to be a more senior scholar.
Of course, keep in mind those Husserl scholars that you are reading now and look into the departments where they are currently teaching.
Get in touch with these people and talk to them. Most importantly, ask if they are taking on graduate students and sitting on dissertation committees.
Getting a graduate degree with a well respected Husserl scholar will certainly help with securing a tenure track job down the road.
