Subject: Changing my diet to help depression
Question Hello, I am a 41 year old mother of three. I am expereincing a very troubling time. I am very depressed. I don't want to get out of bed, feel hopeless, quit my job. lost interest in passions I once had, etc. I was depressed once before (after the birth of my youngest child-13 years ago) and spent about 5 years on prozac. I have recently seen my doctor about my most recent bout and was prescribed another antidepressant. Which I do not want to take. The last time I took an anridepressant, I lost five years of my life living in a "hazing pretend happiness world". I am convinced that my poor diet is to blame for some of my feelings. I practically lived on starbucks, donuts and the like for a very long time. I have been reading up on hypoglycemia and how it can affect ones mental well being. So I am trying very hard to conform to this diet and lifestyle change in the hopes of curing my sick mind. However I am about a week in and I cannot totally cut the refined sugar from my diet. I will start the day with some almonds, hard cheese and an egg. Continue on with small healthy snacks. And then everyday since I have started I will succumb to the craving of sugar and either have a jam sandwich or fall off the wagon in some other way. So for the most part I am following the diet. But I seem to be unable to completely cut out all white sugar 100% (although I am still trying and hope to). What I am asking is; AM I completely wasting my time? Since I cannot commit 100%, am I doing any good at all? Because this is expensive for me, and very hard. I really don't feel cured or that great really. Will releif come? When? And will it ever if I continue to lose will power and indulge in sugar everyday (albiet small anmounts). Please help :) Pam
Answer Dear Pamela,
You seem to be on the right track. Going on hypoglycemic diet takes a while for the body to adjust. Sometimes it may take up to three months. Sugar cravings is a problem, because the body is trying to withdraw from sugar. The best is to supplement with GLYCERINE. Please search our web site for GLYCERINE.
