Question
I am looking for a tripod for my Canon 40D. I have a very basic tripod right now and it is difficult to shoot shots of the nighttime sky, no easy to rotate vertically 70-90 degrees. Can you recommend a good tripod that has this kind of tilt range? Weight and size collapsed are not issues. I'm 6'2" so would also like it to have appropriate height. Thanks.

Answer
I don't think you need a tripod as much as you need a tripod head.  I would suggest a good ballhead, such as the AcraTech Ultimate Ballhead (available at bhphotovideo.com among other places.)  As for a tripod, I would just buy a used one from eBay as they are plentiful.  Check how high they will go.  You might look for something like a Bogen 3021 etc.  Usually, the tripod head is more important than the tripod.

Regards,
Kent in SD
