Question
QUESTION: Hello Barrie, i have been taking pictures for about 4 years already with my good Nikon N80 but I think it is time to go digital... I was thinking buying the Nikon D80 but my main issue is if the lenses i got will fit in this new camera, I got the AF-S Zoom-Nikkor 28-70mm f/2.8D IF-ED (2.5x) and also the AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8G IF-ED (2.9x), what do you think ?

ANSWER: I use Canon equipment but have a couple of friends who have D80 Nikons. The AF lenses you have will fit the DSLR with no problems. The only difference is that the sensor on the D80 is not full 35mm size so all your lens focal lengths will be multiplied by about 1.5. That is to say your 28-70 will become approx. 42 - 105 and the 70 - 200 becomes a 105 - 300

There will be no going back to film, I promise

Regards
Barrie

QUESTION: "Hello Barrie, thanks a lot for your answer, anyway I go another question for you, what if i want to mantain the focal lenght of my lenses, is there another camera that i could buy or any digital camera that i might get will have the same problem ? It seems to me you loose a lot at the wide angle range of my lens buying a digital camera...

Answer
At the moment the only full frame Nikon DSLR is the D3 In Britain the cost is around £3000 in US $5000 (body only). It is the top of the range Nikon and a professional camera.

I use Canon and have a 5D which is also a full frame DSLR. In my opinion a great buy at £2000 in UK (body only). I am not going to criticise the Nikon against Canon because those friends I have who use Nikon are very pleased with the results they get.

Yes, you do lose out on wide angle with a D80 and if you are a landscape photographer then you may need to invest in a 10mm or 15mm lens to get the benefit. At the other end of course you win with a 300mm jumping up to 450mm.

Regards
Barrie
