Question Recently my father past away, while going though his stuff I came across some unprocessed 35mm film that is about 40 years old.Is there a chance that it can still be processed? If so who do you recommend.
Regards,Blake
Answer Hi Blake,
You don't say if the film is colour or black and white but the problem is similar. If it is black and white there may be a chance that it could be done, colour is less likely.
There is such a think called latent image, which means that the emulsion on the film (this is the light sensitive coating) will have started to degrade and will depend on where the camera has been kept and the variation in temperature over the years.
I don't know if you are in Britain or USA. The best thing is to take it to a good camera shop, that is one which is staffed by individuals who know what they are doing, not that easy to find. Tell them the problem and see what they say.
It is always worth a try but don't be too disappointed if the results are not so good.
