Question I am a student from the UK. i am currently in Hong Kong for pleasure until
late august. i have been contacted by a magazine company because they wish
to see some of my photography stock. they have seen some already but
would like to see more for possibly renting of single use in their magazine. i
have done some research on,, how much i should expect to rent some of my
photos out for single use, but have not found any real answers. my photos are
of medium to high quality ranging from dimensions 1600-1200 to 3264-
2176 all of my photos are very stylish and arty and are of places, cultures etc
from around the world... sorry for the essay.
how much should i expect to sell/rent for instance 1 nice photo for single
use only? and can you give me some tips on getting a good sale.
Many thanks
Answer The biggest question is how big is the magazine and what is the use? A national large magazine for editorial could upwards of $1000 single use, however a small regional magazine could be only $50.
I just shot a layout for a small county magazine in the states, counties are your shires. All I charged them was for the shoot 2.5 hours and they got rights for the article. I charged them about $550.
If your unpublished and want to get a foot in the door and make some spending money you can negotiate. Remember.."it's honor among thieves."
Try looking at ppa.com or Googling photo rights, etc.
