Question
I OWN A CANON REBEL EOS CAMERA NOW AND WILL BE PURCHASING A CANON 40D, WHAT LENSES SHOULD I HAVE TO PURSUE PORTRAIT TAKING AND WEDDINGS

Answer
Rick,

For a dedicated portrait lens, most people would want a standard or medium telephoto prime lens.  Like the 50mm f1.8 or f1.4.  Or the 85mm f1.8 or f1.4.  For weddings you would want a medium and telephoto zoom.  Ideally you would want the brightest you could afford.  The best in my opinion are the 17-55 f2.8 and 70-200 f2.8.IS. If these are too expensive you could go for the 17-85 f4.-5.6 IS and the 70-300 f4-5.6 IS. You will also need a flash. For weddings you will want the most powerful one.  The Canon 580EX II.

All of these things are more important than the Camera body.  I would put my money into the lenses and flash before I purchased a new body.

John
