Question Can you advise me on the effect of Teleconverters with a Nikkor 16-85mm and a Nikon D80? I am looking either for a new (longer) fixfocus telelens (135+mm) or might as an alternative buy a TC2 teleconverter to broaden my reach.
What would you advise?
Thx in advance
Answer If you must buy a teleconverter, rather than a longer lens, make sure it isn't a cheap one. The quality of your image will suffer to some extent with any converter or extender, but a cheap one will be a big mistake. If you already have a good quality lens you are almost better off enlarging the result on the computer than adding a converter to the lens.
A teleconverter will decrease the maximum aperture you can achieve on the lens and in some cases you can lose the auto focus facility. You haven't said why you feel the need for the extra focal length so I have no idea what sort of pictures you will be taking.
Certainly if you have the choice of a 135mm or a converter, I would go for the longer lens.
