About Steve Pearson
Expertise
Try me for 35mm or darkroom issues. I am a professional photographer in Australia. I work solely in 35mm digital format, after 35 years of colour and monochrome film in many formats. I have darkroom experience and for many years belonged to my local camera club. I conduct photography workshops around the state on any and most subjects relating to photography and often judge photography exhibitions and competitions.

Experience
I hold a Diploma of Applied Science in Forensic Investigation, with part of my studies involving photography. I spend most days with a camera and am into digital photography in a big way. I was given my first camera in 1965 and have not been without one since. I spent nearly 20 years as a forensic investigator with my state Police Force, and since retiring a couple of years ago have concentrated on commercial photography - especially weddings.

Question
Hello Steve
Do any camcorders exist possibly allowing one to make movies and then extract individual photographs, negatives, or prints from the movie film itself, thus saving having to buy a separate regular camera?
I would like a camcorder to archive family & special events, but desire periodically to take a snapshot of myself or someone in a humorous setting, act, or costume. I might be asking for too much. Just curious. Also, if this type of camcorder exists, could one order it with a zoom lens or add one on later?

Thank you very much.

Answer
Hi Mike. Camcorders are a little out of my expertise, but I have used a few in my day and found that most of them have a 'snapshot' facility that allows you to take stills. Conversely you can pull shots from the finished tape or disc. Just hit a camera store that has a fairly big range and ask the same question. You'll be surprised at what is available. Cheers, Steve P
