Question
I am amateur photographer and I am trying to start a small business taking photographs at either schools, parties, etc.  Is there a list of items that you can give me of equipment I will need to get started, what kind of cameras with lights that flash when you snap a picture I will need to buy, etc.  Thank you so much for your time.   Rosie

Answer
Rosie,

There's a huge difference between school group shots and parties.  With parties, all you need is an on-camera flash..preferably the same brand as your camera.  School (class shots) need a very high powered and relatively expensive set-up.  This is not my area of expertise, so I would not want to give you ill advice or prices.

The class photo business is very difficult and long hours but can be very profitable. I like shooting parties (corporate or private).  The pay is good, hours not bad and corporations don't bitch too much.  It's very pleasant having a cocktail in one hand and the camera in the other!!

Hope this helps.

Mark
