Subject: Canon EOS Rebel digital

Question
If you cannot answer this question could you put me in touch with someone who can. You seem to be the only one on the list with some knowledge of digital camera. I recently bought a Canon EOS rebel.I do not understand the "Focal Points" particularly when using the automatic mode. When I press half way down a red dot shows the focal point. If I press again the focal point has changed. This to me does not mean that it is fully automatic. Also how much area does this focal point cover. These are really driving me batty and I'm on the verge of selling the camera.
Thank you---Jean

Answer
Jean,

I use Nikons, but I played around with an EOS a few months ago and I think I know what you mean.

The focus point enables you to select what part of the frame you want to be in focus.  You ought to be able to set the focus point in one spot, say the middle, and lock the control so it doesn't move.  To do that you're going to have to consult your manual.

You might ask somebody on the EOSrebels.com website (www.eosrebels.com) or the Canon DLSR user group (www.flickr.com/groups/canondslr/).

Good luck, hope I've helped a little.

Joe
