AboutMartin Seymour Expertise I have worked in most aspects of still photography, using film and the wet process for 50 years. Employing all film formats 35mm to 8x10 sizes, I went over partly to digital cameras in 02, also PC editing of pictures.
I still find film work more demanding , as you have to get it right at the start with no auto settings on the camera to cover my mistakes.
Pictorial work is my personal interest.
Its is not a good idea for me to suggest a particular make of equipment just a type, and its uses.

Question Hi Martin.
I have a Nikon D70 with 18mm lens and also bought a flash that cost £300 to go with the camera.
The trouble is, when i use the flash, the pictures come out 'yellow'. I have scoured the manual from cover to cover and still cant figure out what I am doing wrong. It has to be a good flash for the price and is a Nikon one advised for the camera.
I took pictures at a friends wedding recently and specifically wanted a picture of all the grooms pals in a circle looking down at me lying on the floor, looking up at them with the camera. When I take the pictures though they always come out very dark and unusable. This is without using the attachable flash, but the one already built in the camera.
Hope you can find the time to help.

Hi Kev
Firstly the yellow was probably caused by the light setting was incorrect.
WB (white balance)–set this to the lighting that you are currently to use daylight/flash/artificial, etc.
Difficult to say about laying on your back shots but if you had the camera set on auto exposure then it was probably reading the available light from the room light or something that gave the camera a false reading. And not a reading from the actual subjects- people.
Extra lighting would be needed though I hate flash on camera shots this would probably be needed in this situation, with every thing set to wide angle inc the flash.
Unusual shots like this are best tried out before the real thing on the day.
But don’t give up.
