-----Question-----
I am a junior in high school and i am having a hard time figuring out what i need to take in college. I have looked at college majors, and well, i just don't know which fits to me. I was hoping you could advise me.
-----Answer-----
By the subject line, I assume you want to major in photography.  There are lots of branches of photography: photojournalism, art, sports, nature, etc. Here are some of the courses I suggest you take that will help a photography career:  computers graphics (Photoshop), art, politcal science, history, taxes.

As a photographer, you rarely work on salary and must know how to handle money (taxes), covering news your understanding of the events is paramount (history), shooting political fundraisers knowing about government is essential (political science), the basics of form and story telling (art) and knowing how to organize and correct your images (Photoshop).

Actually, the best advice is to find a field of photography that you love and go for that specialty: sports, photojournalism, art, interiors, product, travel, models.  You will have a better career if you specialize.

Hope this helps..

Mark

Answer
Here's the simple reason, the more articulate you are about the subject(s) you are shooting, the better access you have to them.  If you can converse to the people you are shooting about their expertise, your entree into their world becomes easier, and they will want to hire you again.  If your a blithering idiot...why would they want to have you around regardless of how brilliant you are?

Being intelligent, well-read and well-spoken are as important as your talent to your success in any field.  In photography, you could be dealing with doctors one day, insurance agents the next, a Noble prize winner and the VP of the US later that week. You do not work in a void.
