About Martin Seymour
Expertise
I have worked in most aspects of still photography, using film and the wet process for 50 years. Employing all film formats 35mm to 8x10 sizes, I went over partly to digital cameras in 02, also PC editing of pictures. I still find film work more demanding , as you have to get it right at the start with no auto settings on the camera to cover my mistakes. Pictorial work is my personal interest. Its is not a good idea for me to suggest a particular make of equipment just a type, and its uses.

Hi,

i use sanDisk Extreme 3 compact flash cards, and as i am quite new to digital photography i am wondering could you answer a few quick questions.

1. if i transfer the photos to a compact disk, will i get the quality be the same if i were to get them developed from the cd or should i keep them on the flash card?

2. i recently purchased a canon 1ds camera and a canon 70-200mm is l lens. i am looking to buy a landscape/portrait lens. any advice on what to go for?

thanks,

Patrick

Answer
Hi Patrick.
If your printer will make prints direct from flash card then print away . but the whole beauty of digy photography is the comparative ease of editing your pictures on your PC then printing.
Its better to copy your pic to the hard drive /edit/ then make a final back up copy on to the CD for printing later.
In addition to this its best to -- make a second copy on the hard drive and edit this not the original !!!!!! (save as)
As you may well cock up the editing and loose everything. especially if you are new to editing and digital work. ok.
Martin
