Expert: David Barry Date: 8/12/2005 Subject: Scan slides to jpg, burn jpeg to CD-R, view on tv
Question Hello David Barry,
Thank you for considering this dilemma.
Computer used: HP Pavillion ZD7000 (XP Home) No alterations were made to this computer.
Connected to the TV is DVD/VCR Deck: Panasonic PV-D4744/PV-D4744S
I don't know the TV brand, but can get it.
Me: I'm a computer tutor in the Las Vegas area requesting assistance on behalf of my client.
Problem: Client scans slides to jpg, burns jpeg to CD-R (TDK + other brand name blanks) on notebook (via MS default burn technology/program), views CD on tv. Sometimes/sometimes not a newly burned CD-R views on TV. Sometimes/sometimes not a newly burned CD-R does not view on TV. Sometimes/sometimes not a newly burned CD-R which was viewable on TV at one point in time (several months earlier) is no longer viewable on TV. Each CD-R is viewable on any pc. Panasonic suggests to reset player. HP offers no intelligent assistance other than what is in the manual (specifically, not to use the keyboard during the burning process) or to buy a one yr tech support package. Thanking you in advance for any assistance you may offer.

Answer Don't know if I can help much here, only some possible suggestions, without being sure.
Fact that CD-R consistently viewable on any PC and playing on DVD deck is only intermittent, possibly suggests that DVD player may be getting its settings changed (e.g, by other users without client knowing it, or client forgetting to revert to necessary settings) between viewing sessions which make it unable to read the CDs on those occasions.
Perhaps client could invest in more dedicated/capable CD-R burning software (not going to suggest any particular brand) to make burnt CD-Rs more universally readable and give client more options in burning process, and possibly make CDs more reliable on DVD player. I've often found the default programs on MSWindows a bit lacking in versatility / control.
Also possibly some brands of blank CD may not be so reliable, although if TDK brand is one of the culprits then this may not be the problem
In honesty, maybe another expert with more specialty knowledge in CD burning and playing on TV/DVD units could be more helpful than me.
